Avise - Introd
Resorts: Arvier, Avise, Introd, Saint-Nicolas
This is an extremely challenging route with a complex trail which, however, reveals a vast and varied slice of the territory between Avise, Saint-Nicolas, Arvier and Introd. You’ll through badlands, canyons and vineyards until you get to the airy plains of Les Combes, much loved by popes.
Route
You start to climb again from the lovely Avise, continuing along a nice path the winds between forests and fields and leads to Saint-Nicolas, which is announced by the church that can be seen from afar and which is stretched out in a panoramic position, almost overhanging the valley floor.
From here you descend again towards the sunny vineyards and canyons of Enfer di Arvier to enter into the village of Leverogne.
The center of Arvier is worth a detour, the ancient Arebrigium of Roman memory, where you can appreciate the Church of San Sulpicio and the Chateau La Mothe.
From Leverogne you climb again to the villages of Petit and Grand-Haury, which are watched over by the severe Montmayeur Castle, a place where it is said a savage lord once lived. And then on towards Les Combes, a charming village nestled between vast plains and the beloved summer residence of Pope John Paul II and Pope Benedict XVI.
Lastly, from Les Combes there is a stunning scenic walk through the fields that is in gentle, yet constant descent towards Introd, close to its castle and the elegant church called the Conversion of San Paolo.
