ART, HISTORY AND ARCHEOLOGY

From prehistory to Roman times, from the Middle Ages to the nineteenth century, the Balteo Trail combines important evidence of the past in a single story: Roman monuments, fairytale castles and imposing fortresses, picturesque rural hamlets, ancient bridges and places of worship.

ROMAN TIMES

Five centuries of Roman domination left important monuments and major engineering works in Aosta Valley.

Castles

Whether you meet them along the trail or admire them in a panoramic position on the opposite side of the valley, the castles are ever-present companions along the Balteo Trail.

MUSEUMS

The museums along the route or in its vicinity are witnesses to the territory, its history and its people: art and archeology, science and natural history, crafts and popular traditions.

CHURCHES

Churches and votive chapels, built to invoke protection against the unpredictability of nature or to ask fro a good harvest, attest the intense religious devotion of this population.
