Parish church of San Giorgio
Resorts: Pollein
The Church dedicated to Saint George, according to some historical documents, has existed since 1168. It was first rebuilt in 1596, then in 1685 and enlarged towards the façade in 1867.
Inside, visitors can admire a wood-carved statue representing St. George on horseback slaying the dragon, dating back to the 9th century. On the exterior façade, Saints Grato and Anselmo are depicted, one on the left and the other on the right, while in the centre, on the entrance door, St. George on horseback, the patron saint of Pollein, stands out as a larger figure.
The frescoes, both interior and exterior, were painted by the painter Giuseppe Antonio Avondo, who was commissioned for the artwork in 1867.
