Barmasse Refuge and Lago di Cignana

Resorts: Valtournenche

In the heart of the Matterhorn Valley, at 2,169 meters above sea level, Lake Cignana spreads out like a mirror of water nestled among the mountains. One of the largest lakes in the Aosta Valley, it powers the Maën hydroelectric plant and offers spectacular views in every season. With a bit of luck, you might spot marmots, ibexes, chamois and other alpine animals nearby. A wild and peaceful corner of nature, perfect for those seeking mountain silence and special encounters.

Route

From Crêt du Pont, on the road leading to the hamlet of Crépin in the municipality of Valtournenche, just after crossing the bridge, take Alta Via 1 (which for a stretch coincides with path no. 6) which gains considerable altitude among the pastures and after crossing the woods, and after a diagonal slope, leads to several buildings of the hydroelectric power station (Promoron). From here you come to Alpe Falegnon and continue into the valley along the hillside, until you come to the foot of the artificial barrier.
