Gressoney-Saint-Jean is certainly one of the most elegant places in of the Monterosa area.
Lake Gover, located a short distance from the center, the views of the Monte Rosa Massif combined with the traditional “Walser” houses make the place one of the most popular destinations during the summer season, earlier chosen by Queen Margherita of Savoy as a holiday resort.
Savoy Castle was built for her, where she was hosted during her summer stays at the foot of the Monte Rosa Massif.
The castle, which can still be visited today, is surrounded by a botanical garden with various specimens of alpine flora. During the winter season the woods host wonderful ring-trails devoted to cross-country skiing, while for downhill lovers the Weissmatten area offers the opportunity to entertain the little ones thanks to the baby snow park with numerous pieces of play equipment, but it also allows you to ski on one of the most beautiful slopes in the entire Alps. In fact, the international track named after Leonardo David is here: a technical track with continuous variations in rhythm and slope. Thanks to its lighting system, on some evenings it is possible to ski under the stars, thus experiencing the magic of night skiing.
