Sarre

Situated at 631 meters above sea level, just outside Aosra, Sarre offers good accommodation, both in hotel facilities and campsites, and is chosen by tourists who want easy access to the valleys of the Gran Paradiso National Park and the surroundings of Aosta. The name Sarre derives from the pre-Roman voice sarra, which means 'narrow within the mountains'. Really the territory extends over a very large area, which also reaches 3.061 meters of altitude of Mont Fallère. The good exposure has allowed since ancient times the foundation of many villages, now surrounded by orchards and vineyards.

WHAT TO SEE
● The Royal Castle of Sarre was purchased in 1869 by King Vittorio Emanuele, who made it his headquarters for hunting expeditions in the valleys of Cogne, Rhêmes and Valsavarenche. His successor, King Umberto I, ordered to decorate the hall and gallery with 3612 horns of chamois and ibex.
● The Parish Church of Saint-Maurice reveals its ancient origins in the Romanesque-style bell tower with mullioned and three-light windows on three levels. It houses sacred art objects of great artistic value such as wooden sculptures, goldsmithery and fabrics.
● The ‘Salassi Road’ is the ancient route of pre-Roman period, that joined the Gran San Bernardo area to the upper part of Aosta Valley and it winds also on the hill of Sarre at the new panoramic road.

NATURE AND SPORT
For relaxing and enjoying the cool of the forest, you can reach the picnic area of Bellon, called 'Sources du Rouet' for the presence of sources accessible through easy paths.
For wellness care, in the hamlet of Arensod there is a swimming pool with sauna and Turkish bath open all year round. For lovers of trekking, it is possible to reach the summit of Mont Fallère starting from the hamlet of Thouraz, while several routes in the area of Ville-sur-Sarre can be covered by mountain bike or on horseback. Possibility to practice sport fishing and trial biking.

FOR THE LITTLE ONES
Among the many playgrounds present in the various hamlets, we suggest the one in the sports area of Sarre, reachable also with a fun and easy ride along the cycling trail just 2 km far from Aosta. The indoor/outdoor pool in Arensod is particularly suitable for children as the water is heated and the depth measures 60 to 120 cm. The trial biking area in Clut is also open to children from 8 years old.
