The Capanna Aosta Refuge situated on a ridge east of the end section of the Tza de Tzan glacier, on the summit of the Valpelline, is owned by the C.A.I. (Italian Alpine Club) of Aosta and is a very interesting destination for all those wishing to savour the temptations of the Alps from close range, passing close to imposing glaciers which are now shrinking. It is the starting point for numerous mountain itineraries.

Aosta Est motorway exit. Follow the signs for theTraforo del Gran San Bernardo (Gran San Bernardo Tunnel)(green signs) which after a short distance take you to the mouth of the tunnel which links with strada statale (main road) 27. Straight after the tunnel exit go right at the junction following signs for Valpelline, Diga di Place Moulin (Place Moulin Dam). Carry on along the regional road for a few Km until you reach the town of Valpelline. Go past the petrol station on the right (the last service station in the valley) carry on uphill until you reach the junction for Bionaz on the right, level with the hairpin bend. Having gone over the junction carry on along regional road 28 which first of all goes through the town of Oyace and, after a short distance uphill, you will reach the upland plain of Lexert with a lake of the same name. Carry on, just before you reach the centre, on the left, you will come across the junction for Place Moulin and the dam of the same name. Carry on along the road which goes uphill until you reach the large parking area close to the dam where you can leave your car. then travel for 3 hrs on foot
The nearest train station is in Aosta. The bus station is in front of the train station.
Scheduled Coach service as far as Bionaz (approximately 4 trips a day, excluding Sundays).
