An ancient and deep-rooted custom of Aosta Valley breeders is to transfer, during the summer months, the herds from the stables at the bottom of the valley to the high altitude pastures.

Devétéya is the term in local patois that indicates the descent to the valley at the end of the summer season, a moment of celebration that rejoices the end of a period of hard work and the reunion of families.

On Saturday the cows parade through the festively decorated streets of the village; the Reina di cornes (queen of the horns) opens the procession with the characteristic red decoration called “bosquet”, followed by the Reina di lacé (queen of milk, the most productive cow) decorated with a white “bosquet”.

The Fiera di Cogne is the re-enactment of the ancient cattle fair accompanied by a market of typical food and artisanal products.

And throughout the weekend, in the participating restaurants, the traditional menu” Les Saveurs du Blé et de l’Alpage will be offered to discover and savour the excellence of the territory (booking recommended).

Saturday evening Devétéya dinner, organized by the Proloco of Cogne at the municipal gymnasium, and dancing evening.
