This renowned international ski mountaineering race takes place on a high-altitude course between the Matterhorn and Monte Rosa, often exceeding 4,000 meters and featuring alpine-level challenges.

Held biennially, the Trofeo Mezzalama takes place in harsh weather and environmental conditions. As a result, its schedule is highly dependent on general weather conditions and high-altitude forecasts, with the possibility of being postponed or, in extreme cases, canceled.

A true marathon on skis - specifically ski mountaineering skis, equipped with mobile bindings used for both ascents and descents by attaching "climbing skins" to the base.

The 24th edition of the Mezzalama Trophy is set for Saturday, April 26, 2025, with Sunday, April 27, reserved as a backup date in case of bad weather. This famous "glacier marathon" of Monte Rosa, stretching from Breuil-Cervinia to Gressoney-la-Trinité, marks the conclusion of the international ski mountaineering season. It is a standalone event for the ISMF Long Distance World Championship and the final of La Grande Course, the exclusive circuit of ski mountaineering races across the Alpine Arc and the Pyrenean Range.

In 2025, the Trofeo Mezzalama will feature two-person teams instead of the historical format of three. This change responds to the evolving high-mountain conditions, with retreating glaciers, increasingly snow-scarce seasons, and more prevalent bare ice on slopes and ridges. In such conditions, two-athlete teams are more agile and efficient, especially in rope maneuvers and glacier descents.
