The exhibition features 120 works, including paintings, sculptures, gouaches, drawings, lithographs, books and ceramics created between 1922 and 1980, on loan from the Musée National Marc Chagall in Nice. Some of them have never before been shown in Italy and offer visitors the opportunity to retrace Marc Chagall’s artistic journey through a renewed interpretation of his relationship with the sacred, a complex theme that remains highly relevant today.

The exhibition includes works of great artistic and emotional impact, such as the sketch for Song of Songs III (1957), The Prophet Isaiah (1968) and The Tower of David (1968–1971), displayed alongside major works from the 1930s, including The Circumcision of Abraham and Joseph Recognized by His Brothers.

Fascinated by the Bible from an early age, Chagall began studying it in depth in the 1930s, finding in it an inexhaustible source of poetic and artistic inspiration.

Divided into eight sections, the exhibition traces the artist’s stylistic development and the growing importance of biblical themes in his work. From the mid-1950s onwards, these themes became central to his artistic research. During this period, Chagall created the Biblical Message cycle, which would later become part of the Musée National Marc Chagall in Nice, inaugurated in 1973 as the first museum in France dedicated to a living artist. Through these works, Chagall conveys a universal vision that transcends religious and cultural boundaries, offering a message of hope and spiritual renewal for humanity.
