Le Murasse

Resorts: Verrès

In 1512, the same year in which he had the bell tower of Saint‑Gilles raised and the medieval convent renovated, the provost Carlo di Challant commissioned the construction of the grange known as “cascine Murasse” as a dependency of the Provostry. Today the complex stands near the Verrès motorway exit and is easily recognizable.

The building preserves notable architectural features: a crenellated perimeter wall, a long structure originally used as a stable with a lowered vault, and above all the dovecote tower, a symbol of lordship and noble privilege, similar to the one built by Giorgio di Challant near the castle of Issogne. On the façade of the tower, a Latin inscription commemorates the rapid construction of the complex, completed in just three months and entirely at the provost’s expense.

The restoration of the building has allowed its adaptive reuse as the headquarters of the Unité des Communes Valdôtaines Evançon and the district library, giving new life to an important historic site.

The building can be appreciated from the outside at any time.
Access to the offices of the Unité des Communes Valdôtaines Evançon and to the library is permitted during public opening hours.
The inner courtyard and the main hall are accessible on the occasion of events, according to the arrangements established by the organizers.
